E. Curtiss, CFA, J.D., L.L.M. (Taxation)

Jeffrey E. Curtiss is a member of
the Board of Directors of KBR, Inc. He serves as Chairman of its
Audit Committee and also serves on its Health, Safety and
Environmental Committee. He served as a member of its Independent
Committee which evaluated aspects of the KBR split-off from
Halliburton and also served on the KBR Compensation and
Nominating/Corporate Governance Committees during 2007.
Mr. Curtiss received a BSBA degree
from the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration
(1970) with high distinction; a JD degree from the University of
Nebraska College of Law (1971) and an LLM degree in taxation from the
School of Law at Washington University in St. Louis (1975). He became
a CPA in 1971; a lawyer in 1972 and a CFA charterholder in 2006.
He has experience with Peat, Marwick
& Mitchell, receiving his CPA certificate from Colorado, and with
Nelson, Harding, Marchetti, Leonard & Tate, a law firm. From 1973-79,
he was employed by Monsanto Company in tax and international treasury
positions. He was Asst. Treasurer, VP of Corporate Development and VP
of Finance of G.D. Searle from 1979-88, and he became CFO of the
Coleman Company; Heritage Media; Browning-Ferris Industries (“BFI”)
and Service Corporation International (“SCI”) from 1988-2006. His
experience is with large publicly owned international companies
engaged in manufacturing (pharmaceuticals, chemicals, camping and
outdoor products) and/or services (media, waste services and death
care services). Mr. Curtiss served on the Board of Directors of
Heritage Media and American Ref-Fuel, a $2 billion waste to energy
joint venture owned 50% by BFI.
Mr. Curtiss is a member of the AICPA,
Financial Executives International (“FEI”), CFA Institute, CFA Society
of Houston, American Assn. of Attorney-CPAs, Economics Club of Chicago
and the National Association of Corporate Directors. He is an inactive
member of the Illinois, Nebraska and Missouri Bar Associations. He
served as past President of the Houston Chapter of FEI, Regional
Director and Secretary to FEI (National). He serves on FEI’s Audit
Committee and is a Director of the Houston Chapter of FEI. He is
active in the CFA Society of Houston, teaching Level 3 Rice University
CFA Review classes and participates on the Houston CFA Scholarship
Committee. In the 1970s, he taught accounting at three universities;
published several tax related articles and served as Municipal Judge
of the City of Manchester, Missouri.
He has been married to Margaret
Curtiss for 31+ years and has two grown sons who live in Houston,
Texas. His hobbies include travel, bird hunting, Nebraska football,
investing and an exercise routine.
